Waldo has reimagined how mobile testing should be done. We get all the benefits of automation, without the hassle of scripting and the whole team feels much more confident in the code we ship to our users.
Rocket Money (formerly known as Truebill) connects directly to, and shares critical financial information with, their user's banking institutions to help them find and cancel unwanted subscriptions.
After a successful series B round in late 2019, Rocket Money saw massive growth in their user base. With more users relying on the app and trusting it with sensitive financial information, any bug can have a direct impact on Rocket Money's bottom line.
To effectively manage these risks, Idris, CTO at Rocket Money, and his team ship updates quickly to continuously improve stability and functionalities. It was important for them to automate tests to ensure frequent updates to the code didn't break core functionalities.
Rocket Money had the engineering team, and members of the product team, manually testing the app and their core user flows, including in app purchases. They knew this was not a long term, scalable approach.
Rocket Money wanted to let their engineering team focus on growing the core application. Electing to automate their tests with scripting would require that they hire a dedicated, test engineering team, or outsource the effort all together.
Rocket Money ultimately selected Waldo. Our platform is designed so technical, and non-technical team members, can build out fully automated tests and maintain them long term with less overall resourcing. This allowed Rocket Money to leverage their existing team, while getting the coverage they needed, in a fraction of the time it would have taken to begin implementing a custom scripting solution.
After only a few weeks, their team built out a suite of 40 tests that runs every 2 hours, on 2 device configurations that covers core functionalities, including “must test” parts of the app such as in-app purchase.
Then, they built out a core flow suite of 5, critical user flows that runs on every PR to ensure what they ship will not break high priority user functions.
After only 9 months of using Waldo, Rocket Money has run its suite more than 600 times, and was able to catch many visual bugs and functional issues with their in-app purchases. They have saved hundreds of hours that would have been spent testing, and have directed those efforts towards the continuous improvement of their highly rated app. Both their internal team members and end users benefit from the high quality builds that are shipped with every release.
The whole team feels much more confident in the code we ship to our users.
